Dwell on Design
24 - 26 June '11
Los Angeles
Dwell on Design 2011 returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center. This three day design event, curated by by the editors of Dwell Magazine, will feature over 300 exhibitors and is expected to have around 20,000 visitors.
This year the international flavour of the event is highlighted by two featured exhibitions -'Bravos' and 'Yakitate!', which focus on the design talent from Spain and Japan respectively.
'Bravos', curated by Juli Capella, features 21 of the biggest names in Spanish Design, including Patricia Urquiola, Jaime Hayón, Curro Claret, Nacho Carbonell and Martí Guixé. By bringing these names together, the organisers hope to define and celebrate the unique sensibility of the new Spanish Design scene, saying:
"After an important design history with such figures as Gaudí, Dalí, and 20th century masters as important as Ricard, Milá, Tusquets, Mariscal, the 21st Century has presented a new generation of Spanish designers that stand out just like Scandinavian, Italian and Dutch Design did in previous decades."
'Yakitate!', which translates from Japanese as 'freshly baked' is an exhibition of nine Japanese designers presenting new work, and is curated by Designboom. In addition to the pieces on show, the designers themselves will be leading workshops and presentations about their design practices.
'Yakitate! features designers from across disciplines including furniture, lighting and product designs from Takeshi Miyakawa, Kazuhiro Yamanaka and Kouichi Okamoto.
