Ron Arad: Curtain Call
9 - 29 August '11
Roundhouse
London
Renowned designer Ron Arad is currently creating a unique 360° interactive installation for the Roundhouse, Camden as part of Bloomberg Summer. Once opened, the space will provide a backdrop for new work and performances from invited artists, designers and musicians in an exciting series of events curated by the designer.
At the forefront of contemporary design in both furniture and architecture, Arad is well known for his radical experimentations with both form and materials. His response to the stunning main space of the Roundhouse is 'Curtain Call' - an 8 metre high 'curtain' composed of 5,600 silicon rods, suspended from an 18 metre diameter ring, which can display images and light.
The program for 'Curtain Call' features work by Babis Alexiadis, Hussein Chalayan, Paul Cocksedge, Mat Collishaw, Ori Gersht, Greenaway & Greenaway, Christian Marclay, Javier Mariscal, SDNA, David Shrigley as well as students from the Royal College Of Art.
In this video, Arad, along with key members of his team Julian Gilhespie (architect) and Michael Castellana (industrial designer) explain the main thoughts behind the piece, and give an intriguing glimpse as to what visitors can expect.
