Materiality — The Industrial Design of Benjamin Hubert
4 June – 30 August '11
Berlin
Materiality, an exhibition showcasing the industrial design of Benjamin Hubert, opens in Berlin on the 3rd of June 2011. The inaugural solo exhibition aims to expose the working process of the burgeoning design studio in addition to the finished articles.
As indicated by the title of the exhibition, Benjamin Hubert exercises a materials driven design approach. Much of the studios inspiration originates from a tactile response to raw material and the experience of a close working relationship between the product, process and crafts- men. The exhibition at Direktorenhaus articulates this distinctive approach by revealing a series of images, components, prototypes and materials, creating a temporal wormhole from the London based studio to the heart of Berlin.
This will support a collection of new and earlier work from Hubert, which will be on display throughout the Direktorenhaus to highlight the narrative, values and design language that are fundamental to the young designers work.
Hubert founded his industrial design studio, Benjamin Hubert in 2007 shortly after graduating from Loughborough University, UK, in 2006. In addition, between 2004-2009, both before and during the set-up his design studio, Hubert worked for a variety of large design consultancies working in fields covering transport, interiors, consumer and packaging design.
