The Grand-Hornu in Boussu, Belgium is presenting a solo exhibition by Pierre Charpin. An artist by education, Charpin's devotion to the design of furniture and objects dates from the beginning of the 1990’s. His research appears in the projects which he develops for the Design Gallery Milano and the Kreo Gallery in Paris.
In tandem with his more experimental projects his work is recognized by various companies of international renown such as Post Design, Zanotta, Montina, Venini, La Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres.
The Show at the Grand-Hornu gracefully walks the line between contemporary art and design. His drawings can been seen as inspiration for his design objects or visa versa. This show is not simply read as a design showcase, but can be interpreted as a series of installations. It is rare to find an artist/designer that truly embodies both disciplines.
