Makil chair by Patrick Norguet
Maison & Objet Preview
The Makil chair designed by Patrick Norguet for the French manufacturers Alki will be presented at the Maison & Objet show from the 21st to 25th January 2011. Sober and classically elegant, Makil is a stackable oak chair.
In creating the Makil, Norguet employs the best possible bending techniques thanks to his deep understanding and knowledge of the fabrication tools. Alki and Patrick Norguet have collaborated together for several years; Patrick Norguet’s collection for Silvera made by Alki in 2008 often comes to mind. A meeting which gave rise to the desire for a specific production for Alki unveiled this week at the Maison & Objet exhibition.
Prolific and sometimes too discreet, Patrick Norguet nurses a passion for products with sober and refined designs, and the best way to manufacture them which has led him to collaborate with the best Italian and Scandinavian manufacturers for more than 10 years. Launched by Giulio Cappellini with the Bouroullec brothers and Jean Marie Massaud at the end of the ‘90s, Patrick Norguet immediately demonstrates an irreproachable plastic ease with the Rainbow chair, an icon of the Italian editor and also very quickly tests the limits of the style in the name of style. For him design is industrial. He will always choose mass production over unique pieces and the exhilaration of quantity enabled by a production tool that can be continually challenged. A rare and long-standing position which makes him an authentic product designer; a name often tarnished today by the massive influx of artistic designer-directors.
