Valentin Loellmann at Galerie Gosserez
through February 15 '11
Paris
German designer Valentin Loellamnn presents his M&Mme collection at Gallerie Gosserez, Paris.
The collection of furniture pieces has been conceived to be an evolving family of objects, beginning with the founding members exhibited here; two distinct cabinets with drawers, and a bench, produced in bankirai wood with a polyester skin. From here, the designer will create further generations, hoping to allow 'inevitable genetic branches' to dictate future form.
The pieces themselves draw on Dutch design traditions as well as contrasting and evocative use of materials, utilising both contemporary methods and traditional craftsmanship.
Across Loellmann's work is a duality of both experimental construction processes and a sense of narrative and curiosity. Other work includes objects such as 'Paper clay'; a porcelain lamp recalling the form of traditional Chinese paper lamps, and collections which reinvent and reassemble discarded furniture or materials such as weathered ship's planks, see 'Past Memories' and 'Kruk' respectively.
Following straight on from showing work at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, as well as showing simultaneously in New Talents at Ammann Gallery, Cologne, it will be interesting to follow not only the evolution of the M&Mme collection but what comes next for Valentin Loellmann.
