Konstantin Grcic : Design Miami / Designer of the Year '10

Design Miami/ nominated Konstantin Grcic to be this year´s Desinger of the Year 2010. Konstantin Grcic will show an exhibition of selected works as well as a new work, specially designed for the occasion: NETSCAPE is an installation offering public seating for visitors just outside the Design Miami / exhibition tent. The piece consists of 24 swing seats (made from PP netting and fibre glass) hanging from a freestanding steel structure.
Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) was founded in 1991. The office has established its reputation in various fields of design ranging from furniture and industrial products to exhibition design and architecture related work. KGID is collaborating with some of the leading names in the international design industry.
Many of Konstantin Grcic´s products have received international design awards (a.o. winner of the Compasso d`Oro for the lamp MAYDAY in 2001) and form part of the permanent collections of the world´s most prestigious museums (MoMA / New York, Centre Georges Pompidou / Paris, Die Neue Sammlung / Munich etc.).
In 2005 PHAIDON Press London published a comprehensive monography about the work of Konstantin Grcic. The 240 page volume was edited by Florian Böhm and can be purchased from the DeTnk book store.
Each one of Konstantin Grcic´s projects is characterized by his careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for pared-down pieces, Grcic is often called a minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity.
