Important 20th Century Design Auction at Christie's
December 15 '10
New York City
On Wednesday December 15 '10 Christies will be hosting an auction of "Important 20th Century Decorative Art & Design Including Property from The Collection of Max Palevsky."
A majority of the 126 lots are early 20th century works by iconic designers such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh. However, there are a few more recent pieces that have caught our attention.
As we saw earlier this month, Claude Lalanne works have been catching the attention of bidders at recent auctions. This auction offers the chance to expand your collection of works by Francois-Xavier Lalanne, the Lalanne of Claude Lalanne.
We recommend watching "Crapaud" a pair of laminated moulded polyester chairs, designed in 1968 by Lalanne, estimated at $40,000 - $60,000. At Christie's last "Important 20th Century" auction, June 17 '10 in New York, Lalanne's "Oiseaux Petit Modèle" armchairs sold for $134,500, which was over double the $50,000 estimate. Will bidders this December prove to be as excited about Lalanne's work?
Along with Lalanne's whimsical designs, DeTnk is also watching Forrest Myers' "Trapezoid" a painted aluminium cube created in 2007.
After having a shaky 2009, occasionally selling well above estimates while at other times having troubls reaching low estimates, 2010 has proved very hard to sell Myers' work. Every lot, by Myers, that has been up for auction this year has been bought in (not sold). We are interested to see if this piece will break Myers' streak giving him at least one sale at auction in 2010.
