On Sunday November 14 '10 Rago Arts will host an auction from the Bernarda & Ben Shahn Collection. Amongst the many lots of fine art, one can find a variety design objects from Charles Eames to George Nakashima.
With Finn Juhl's work selling well above the estimates in recent auctions, his 'NV-45' upholstered rosewood lounge chair reached $6,875 (37.5% above estimated value) at Christies in March '09, DeTnk recommends taking a look at the Teak No. 48 by Danish designers Finn Juhl and Niels Vodder estimated at $500-$700. The estimated value for this chair is lower than usual because it is in a used condition. However, with the rising value of his work and the improvements in the design market, this is a great item to procure for your collection. Also to watch are a pair of DCW chairs by Charles Eames estimated at $800-$1200. Lastly DeTnk recommends the pair of grass seat chairs in cherry and hickory by George Nakashima estimated at $2,000-$3,300.
