Outrace: Trafalgar Square
16-23 September '10
Trafalgar Square
London, UK
The London Design Festival this year has commissioned Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram to design this year’s Trafalgar Square installation. Their project, titled OUTRACE, gives the general public an opportunity to take control of eight industrial robots on loan from Audi’s production line.
The public can control these robots both from the square and from their homes by visiting www.outrace.org.
A powerful LED light has been attached at the end of each robot arm, and by the control of square visitors and online visitors, the robots will react by spelling out the participants text. Long-exposure cameras will then be used to capture these interactive light paintings and load them to the website to be shared.
