Exhibition: TechnoCRAFT
July 10th - October 3rd ’10
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
San Francisco, California
Now on view in San Francisco is an interesting exhibition curated by acclaimed designer Yves Behar. The show, titled “TechnoCRAFT”, explores how the boundary between the role of the designer and the consumer is disappearing.
The exhibition traces the current trend in design of moving away from fixed objects toward open “design platforms” that invite people to participate in the creative process. Works on display span this spectrum from intentionally collaborative where individuals can customize their products to “finished” products that are adapted or modified by their user. Special attention is paid to the intersection of technology and craft that encourages user participation.
In a recent article for the FastCompany titled “Injecting Soul Into Chilly Modern Design” Cliff Kuang discusses the exhibition and the implications it has for the development of design. READ FULL ARTICLE.
