The Lace Maker
24 June - 31 July '10
Marsden Woo Gallery
London, UK
In his latest exhibition at Marsden Woo Gallery beginning June 24, Tord Boontje overturns the conventional uses of lace and explores its boundaries.
Best-known for his whimsical designs with intricate patterns and unique media, Boontje developed the concept for his “With Lace” series at Marsden Woo while working on a special project for the Design Center at the University of Philidelphia.
The work on view in this exhibition will include a dramatic black sofa constructed of large three-dimensional web-like structures of bound and knotted synthetic fibers. Each object has been created by employing traditional craft skills with unorthodox materials resulting in what Boontje calls 'Spontaneous' design.
