Artist’s Furniture
27 May - 3 July
The Russian Club Gallery
London
The Russian Club Gallery in London is currently hosting an exhibition that examines the relationship between furniture and art. Titled “Sameness & Difference”, the exhibition explores how contemporary artists engage with furniture as a medium, muse or subject.
The show features fourteen pieces of varying media that range from furniture commissions and found objects from the homes of artists and collectors, to video, installation and sculpture.
The works on view were created by forty-five participants, including the piece Ten Children Make Ten Rietveld Reconstructions (screwed together to make a giant monster), for which Ryan Gander worked with ten local school children to produce a new work based on Rietveld’s 1934 “Easy Chair”.
