Destroy Design
24th February - 24th May ’10
MUDAC
Lausanne, Switzerland
Now on view at MUDAC, Musée de Design et d’Arts Appliqués Contemporains, in Lausanne, Switzerland is ‘Destroy Design’, an exhibition of important works on loan from Frances FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais that focuses of the unique position of the object in contemporary culture.
FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais was the first regional Contemporary Art Collection to acquire design pieces, and this exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to view these recognizable, and at times rather mundane objects in radically new ways. ‘Destroy Design’ takes a variety of iconic everyday objects and places them alongside works by contemporary artists and designers. Through this series of displays the objects are diverted, repurposed, and recreated so that they become installations, manifestoes, and sculptures.
In addition, each of the exhibition rooms will feature a short film conceived by the curatorial team, which will underscore the parody, pastiche, and tribute behind each of the displays and what links them together.
MUDAC is the first venue of ‘Destroy Design’, which will afterwards go on a European tour. The next stop is Denmark.
