Interview with Casey Jones
By Alexandra Lang for the Design Observer
In this interview for the Design Observer, Alexandra Lang asks the current Director of Design Excellence and the Arts for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), Casey Jones, about his latest projects, the issue of sustainability in design, the effect of the economic climate and what new directions he plans to take the GSA in.
Casey Jones was appointed as Director of Design Excellence and the Arts back in July, 2009. In this position he oversees the Art in Architecture program as well as the Fine art and Design Excellence programs. Jones trained as an architect and worked for the GSA for several years before co-founding Jones/Kroloff design consultancy firm whose clients ranged from The Broad Art Foundation and the Whitney Museum of Art, to Yale University and FIT.
This interview offers readers interesting insight into the sphere of government funded design, which though rarely given attention tends to have a greater impact on the industry than we realize.
