Upcoming Sotheby’s Design Sales
17th December ’09, 10:00 am & 2:00 pm
Sotheby’s
York Street, New York
On the 17th of December, Sotheby’s New York will host two sales of 20th Century Design. The first is their sale of the private collection of renowned New York event planner Robert Isabell, and the second is their sale of Important 20th Century Design.
The Collection of Robert Isabell offers a variety of works almost exclusively from the second half of the 20th century. Among the 128 lots up for grabs are highlight pieces from Paul Evan, Harry Bertoia, Johnny Swing, and Serge Mouille among others.
The afternoon sale of Important 20th Century Design spans a wider time frame offering pieces from the turn of the 20th century up until today. The selection is primarily dominated by early to mid-century pieces with a focus on Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, but there are several interesting pieces from different periods. Highlights include a rare and important early example of the famous ‘Roodblauwe Stoel’ by Gerrit Rietveld estimated at $200,000-$300,000, and the striking ‘Rolling Volume Sharp Contrast’ chair by Ron Arad ca. 1989 estimated at $60,000-$80,000.
