The Rabih Hage Gallery presents 'Sit Now'
27th November '09 - 30th January '10
Vorstadt 14 FACE
Zug, Switzerland
Now on view at Vorstadt 14 in Zug, is ‘Sit Now’, a show curated by The Rabih Hage Gallery, London, which focuses on the current trend in contemporary design to treat the seat as a sculptural element.
'Sit Now' presents a range of chairs from notable contemporary designers Johnny Swing, Rabih Hage and Karen Ryan. Each of the chosen designers has his or her own unique approach to design, but collectively they all share an interest in the creative process, the use of unconventional materials, and the creation of narrative quality in their work.
From the old coins and baby food jars in Swing’s chairs, and the industrial nails and ripped apart upholstery of Hage’s, to the discarded, second-hand parts in Ryan’s there is a certain biographic and tactile character to these pieces. One wants to walk around them, view them from all sides, and generally appreciate them as sculptural works, but one also wants to touch the nails, sit on the jars and interact with them each as pieces of furniture.
If you are in or around Zug during these next couple of months, this show should not be missed.
The show is curated by The Rabih Hage Gallery, London. For more information please visit www.rabih-hage.com or www.vorstadt14.ch
