Abu Dhabi Art 2009

Opening on the 19th is the inaugural Abu Dhabi Art fair. As part of the festival, up-and-coming Middle Eastern designers will showcase their work, while established European designers showcase their techiniques in the two main events dedicated to contemporary design.   

‘Design Moment’ will offer a public platform for emerging Middle Eastern designers to showcase their latest designs. Participants include Studio Bokja, Younes Duret, Nedda El Asmar, and Ahmad Anawi among many others.

The ‘Design Workshop’ will offer a unique series of interactive exhibitions from notable European designers such as Sevil Peach, Max Lamb, and Maarten Baas among others.  For these ‘workshops’ each of the designers will demonstrate his own particular working method. Sevil Peach will demonstrate how to make an installation out of a traditional string bag; Max Lamb will hold a day-long workshop on casting small objects in pewter; Maarten Baas will invite participants to join him in creating objects through improvisation, using only cardboard and tape.
