Sotheby’s 20th Century Decorative Arts & Design Sale
25th November ’09, 2:30 pm
Sotheby’s
Rue du Faubourg Saint Honore, Paris
Taking advantage of the current trend for mid-century masterpieces, Sotheby’s is hosting a sale of significant Art Deco works at their offices in Paris on the 25th of November.
One highlight piece that seems to be generating some buzz is a unique edition of the ‘table extensible modèle de luxe’ by Charlotte Perriand. This particular work is intriguing because it has been in a private collection since 1930 when it was displayed in the first exhibition of the Union des Artistes Modernes in Paris. The impressive selection on offer also includes significant works by Alberto Giacometti, Jean Royère, Jean Prouvé, and Mathieu Mategot among others.
It will be interesting to see the results of this sale and how they compare to the other design sales this season. So far Jean Royère, Charlote Perriand, and Jean Prouvé have been bringing in the highest prices at sales of much wider ranges of design. Perhaps Sotheby’s is hitting the market at just the right time.
