Phillips de Pury Design Auction
14th November '09, 4:00pm
Phillips de Pury & Company
West 15th Street, New York 10011
On November 14th, Phillips de Pury & Company in New York will host a sale of 20th and 21st century design.
This will be part of a series of consecutive sales Phillips de Pury New York has organised to coincide with the annual New York Contemporary Art Week. It features significant works by a range of contemporary designers including Fernando & Humberto, Shiro Kuramata, Maarten Baas and Vincent Dubourg, as well as a wide selection of mid-century masterpieces.
One highlight of the sale is ‘Table Bleue’ designed by French artist Yves Klein. Klein is best known for his monochrome canvases painted in his patented color ‘International Klein Blue’ (IKB). For his ‘Table Bleue’ Klein has encased loose IKB pigment powder under its transparent top, thus blurring the lines between painting, sculpture, and design. Design by Klein in 1961 and produced by Rotraut Klein-Moquay in 1963, the table will be offered with an estimate of $18,000 - $20,000.
