Record Numbers at Dutch Design Week 2009
News from Eindhoven
This year the eighth annual Dutch Design Week reached record numbers in visitors, participants and media attention.
This year the festival took place from the 16th to the 24th of October and included over 290 registered events at roughly 60 different locations throughout the city of Eindhoven, improving on last year’s numbers of 180 events at 50 locations. Visitor numbers were up as well, reaching 115,000 over the course of the week in comparison with last year’s total of 80,000, and the interest of the foreign press also increased to almost double that of previous years.
Every year Dutch Design Week aims at presenting a comprehensive view of current and future trends in Dutch design. One of the biggest crowd-pullers every year is the Graduation Galleries of the Design Academy Eindhoven where the new talents of the prestigious academy present their graduation projects. This year the exhibition showcased approximately 140 works. Other highlights of the week included the open studio of Kiki and Joost, and the designer collective Invertuals, among many others.
