Selfish & Devoted
by Deger Cengiz
Trained as an architect, Deger Cengiz, explores the boundary between experimental design and conceptual art. One of his most fascinating pieces, 'Selfish & Devoted" physically connects a galvanized steel watering can and a pot and examines their direct relationship.
The angle of the water pouring into the pot has a direct relationship to the angle that the plant consequently grows when the watering can is at rest. Given the reliance of the pot on the watering can and the influence from the latter on the plant, perhaps the pot is not so much selfish but rather dependent.
For the past 20 years Cengiz has worked professionally in architecture, archeology and industrial design and has been featured in several international publications. The Red Dot Design Museum has included his work in their permanent collection.
