The Appel Design Gallery presents ‘Conceptual Substance’, an exhibition showcasing concept-based furniture design that contributes towards a contemporary understanding of design and its many forms of expression.
Featuring the work of 9 Berlin-based international designers, including Jerszy Seymour, El Ultimo Grito, Judith Seng and Tina Roeder, the exhibition investigates a series of products which offer an exploration into materials, ideas, methods and traditions.
By transforming poor and rough materials such as cardboard, tape or expanding foam into exciting pieces of furniture; by seeking endless variations of an archetypal chair model; by sharing blueprints of products on the web for individual production; each designer in their own way have reacted to movements and changes in a global society.
