Thonet Photo Contest: 214 x 214

In honour of the 150th birthday of their café chair ‘no 214’, Thonet is hosting a photo competition to celebrate this unique moment in furniture history.

With an unparalleled success story, no other chair has ever been reproduced as many times. The basis for the chair was a new technique that enabled the bending of solid wood while the ingenious distribution concept - 36 disassembled chairs could be packed in a single box and sent anywhere in the world to be assembled on site - made it one of the most successful industrial products in the world.

Owners of an original model are invited to submit a digital photo of their chair along with a few sentences describing its personal story.

A jury will select 214 of the best, or most original images, which will then feature in Thonet’s upcoming publication. The winners will also be awarded some great prizes, including the grand prize of a trip for 2 to New York.
