Buckminster Fuller: Starting with the Universe
14th March - 21st June '09
The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago
220 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL
The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago presents an exhibition celebrating the results of more than five decades of Buckminster Fuller’s (1895-1983) life’s work.
Best known for his geodesic dome, one of the strongest, most economic structures ever devised, Fuller’s work was driven by his desire to provide environmentally sound design that would benefit the largest segment of society, using the fewest resources.
As a testament to his fascinating mix of utopian vision and organic pragmatism the exhibition will feature a combination of models, sketches, and artifacts – many on view for the first time – representing six decades of the designer’s integrated approach to housing, transportation, communication, and cartography.
