Forming part of the Design Week Cologne, Designers Fair presents “How’s it going? Theoretical Discussions”.
Starting at 3pm Prof. Gerda Breuer (Art and Design History, Bergische Universität Wuppertal) and Petra Engelke (freelance journalist) will discuss the much debated issue: Art versus Design.
Art, in contrast to design, has no application. Right? The boundaries seem to be blurring. Prof. Gerda Breuer spotlights commonalities, oppositions, prejudices and profitability in this discussion and reports, from today’s perspective, on the eternal discussion of form and function.
At 4pm Prof. Günter Horntrich (Ecology and Design, Köln International School of Design) will give a lecture entitled “Everything ecological? How designers are making environmental friendliness chic”
Sustainability is the word on everyone’s lips. But why? What’s so special about ecological design? Where do the boundaries lie? And most of all: what should designers watch out for when designing ecologically sound furniture and interiors? These questions will be answered by Prof. Günter Horntrich in a lecture that doesn’t shy away from controversial positions.
