‘Thinking hands, speaking things’, offers a survey of products created by the Dutch designer, Wieki Somers since graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2000.
Laced with a definite air of poetry, Somers’ designs derive from her personal vision and way of working. Her work is highly varied. ranging from her porcelain pig’s skull tea pot, with rat skin cosy to her Merry-go-round coat rack, as are the techniques she uses.
Her balance between reason and intuition lends her designs a poetic resonance, while leaving room for the future users to exercise their own imagination.
All the designs in the exhibition were produced in close collaboration with Dylan van den Berg, with whom she works under the banner of Studio Wieki Somers.
