Today: World Usability Day 2008
13th November 2008
Every year sees a host of new products enter the marketplace. They are faster, smaller and more complex, and most claim to make our lives somewhat better. However, many of these products fail to meet our basic needs of usability, promptly becoming redundant and adding significantly to our burden on resources.
Fortunately though, every year the second Thursday of November becomes World Usability Day, an event that was founded to ensure that the services and products important to everyday living are easy to access and simple to use.
The opportunity allows consumers and designers alike, to recogise the objects and systems that are predominantly ineffectual, in order to make steps towards a more product efficient future.
In celebration of this year's theme 'transportation', World Usability Day and the Usability Professionals' Association will launch the Global Transport Challenge. This event will encourage participants to examine their travel regimes and focus on Measuring, Monitoring and Minimising their personal carbon travel footprint.
So, if only for today why not take a look at the things that make your world a little better, after all it's often the best design that goes unrecognised.
