Wendell Castle
8th October - 15th November '08
Carpenters Workshop Gallery
Albemarle Street, London
Recognised for his wry wit and uniquely sculptural use of materials, New York artist Wendell Castle will be exhibiting his new body of work at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery this month.
The works on show will be an exploration of volume in his signature materials of stack-laminated wood and fibreglass while using a vibrant spectrum of colour and iridescent texture.
Unlike many of Wendell's earlier designs, which employed relatively simple techniques and straightforward zoomorphic and anthropomorphic forms, this exhibition will present his new fibreglass works which fully embrace the material, resulting in senuous, fully actualised volumes.
Amongst the highlights will be 'Nirvana', 'Abilene' and 'Seneca', three experimental seating solutions made using a combination of steel, silver leaf and fibreglass.
