Max Lamb
8th October - 7th November '08
Johnson Trading Gallery
490 Greenwich Street, New York City, NY
Following on the heels of his selection as one of the Designers of the Future at Design Miami/ Basel 2008, Royal College of Art graduate Max Lamb will be exhibiting a collection of his contemporary furniture designs at the Johnson Trading Gallery in New York.
In addition to presenting some of Lamb’s previous work in limestone, pewter, bronze, copper, wool felt and polystyrene to an American audience for the first time, this exhibit also introduces new pieces commissioned by the gallery made from Delaware Bluestone. This naturally blue sedimentary stone has a strong historic connection to New York as it is indigenous to the New York area and is visible throughout the city’s sidewalks and architecture.
Working directly with a local quarry and drawing upon his previous experience experimenting with Cornish granite, Lamb has applied both hand-carving and high-tech machine-cutting techniques to create a new collection of chairs, tables, benches and stools.
In addition to presenting the pieces themselves, the exhibition will also feature a series of films that endeavor offer visitors a glimpse into Lamb’s design philosophy and processes.
