'Pins and Threads'
by Debbie Smyth
British designer Debbie Smyth’s creations draw upon the principles of architectural drawing, depicting structures that reside on the imagined boundary between design and the drawn line
Blurring the boundary between the two-dimensional line and the three-dimensional object, her most recent piece, ‘Pins and Threads’, displayed at Tent London during the London Design Festival 2008, depicts a series of electricity pylons created using pins and thread.
The Myriad of pins and lines of thread used within the installation are given a new lease on life as floating linear structures, each one plotted and measured accurately giving a 3 dimensional life to the drafted line.
