Post-War plastics: Dieter Rams's innovations in design, 1956 to 1974
11th September - 18th October 2008
72 Wigmore Street
London W1U 2SG
To coincide with the Victoria and Albert Museum’s exhibition Cold War Modern: Design 1945–1970, international modern-furniture company, Vitsœ, will be exhibiting the pioneering plastic furniture of German designer, Dieter Rams.
As a key figure in the post-War movement, Rams changed the face of the domestic landscape. Along with fellow designers Panton, Saarinen, Aarnio and Eames, they produced furniture that incorporated the latest in plastics technology, stripping away ornamentation in favour of creating pure, unobtrusive and timeless designs. Best known for his work for Braun and Vitsœ, Rams designed some of our most treasured modernist icons, many of which are exhibited in museum collections all over the world.
A selection of these classic designs will be on display from next week.
