Platform 21 = Hacking IKEA
7th September - 28th September '08
Platform21
Prinses Irenestraat 19, 1077 WT Amsterdam, NL
Hacking existing design is a recent phenomenon. For a variety of personal motives, professional and nonprofessional designers are making individual alterations to off-the-shelf products.
Some do it for fun, others out of necessity, and still others out of a critical attitude toward mass production.
Platform21 = Hacking IKEA will present the appropriation, adaptation and transformation of standard IKEA products by designers and artists including Tejo Remy, Bjorn Andrassen, Eric Morel, and Kieren Jones. These works will be shown alongside a selection of products by amatereurs and hobbyists as well as a series of commissioned new work by makers to whom the practise of hacking is central.
