Design Deutschland. Case Study 08
25th July - 5th October '08
Neues Museum
Luitpoldstraße 5, 90402 Nuremberg, Germany
This marvelous presentation of German design offers a thematic cross-section of classic and contemporary works by German designers and producers.
Not having strayed too far from the traditional ‘Werkbund crate’, introduced into a number of West German classrooms during the late 1950s as a means to instruct children about proper aesthetic judgement, the exhibition presents itself in a series of Wooden Crates, each displaying a selection of works ranging from Walter Gropius’ Rosenthal Tableware TAC 01 to Konstantin Grcic’s new Myto chair.
This stimulating overview and exciting snapshot into the future of the industry might just be the key to pin-pointing what exactly is German design.
