"Nebula : thoughts" by LA-based artist Lacey Stoffer at INDUSTRY gallery
24 March - 6 May '16
Growing up in Portland, underneath vast trees and pouring rain, LA-based artist Lacey Stoffer developed a fascination of organic shapes in great numbers. She found stories hidden within the endless leaves, rocks and branches, each containing its own special thought. After moving to Los Angeles, nature became sparse. Concrete, metal, and dust replaced plants, trees, and soil.
INDUSTRY Gallery presents Lacey Stoffer’s debut solo show “Nebula : thoughts”. In this installation, rigid aluminium screens transform into light, airy, and seemingly living forms. Though soft and translucent from afar, a closer look reveals their sharp edges and irregularities. Each form holds a static energy or “thought” that overflows into the surroundings. Lacey explains, “This is my way of playing with the feeling of organic abundance in an industrialized manner, similar to the urban/ organic sprawl of Los Angeles.” “Nebula : thoughts” opens March 24th, 2016 at the INDUSTRY gallery PDC and runs until May 6th, 2016.
