'Fan Table' by Mauricio Affonso
Craft and Tradition Meet Technology
Constructed from over 400 slats of wood, the Mauricio Affonso Fan Table explores the fusion of craft and tradition with design and technology.
With a degree in industrial design, a stint as creative lead at house-wares giant Umbra, and nominated for the 2014 Designs of the Year Award by the Design Museum, Affonso designs with a deep understanding of how objects find themselves in the world and an interest in the interaction between object and context. With an effortless movement of the hand, the table can transform into an array of different shapes and sizes to integrate into its environment and serve its purpose.
The surface of the table can freely expand and contract morphing from circular coffee table, to rectangular side table, to rectangular console.
