DUTCH DESIGN YEAR brings the best selection of designers to a new location near Amsterdam
DDY new Showroom Open to Public
near Amsterdam
On Friday the 23rd of May 2014 the workshop of studio Dirk vander Kooij and the showroom designed by DUTCH DESIGN YEAR was officially opened.
The Nieuw Hembrug area in Zaandam is the new creative area of the Randstad, built on the defence line of Amsterdam between the North Sea channel and the Zaan. In this raw industrial environment DVDK and DDY created a space where contemporary interior design, product design, technology and history come together.
The shop stocks the newest interior products of young, upcoming designers, combined with supercool, sometimes odd vintage products. The collection changes almost constantly so they can show a large selection of products during the year. The designs are often shown for the first time to the public.
Thinking outside the box of a regular store – DDY is a stylingstudio, organises exhibitions and will present its own products very very soon. For a lot of these projects DDY uses mainly local and upcoming designers to support them.
The store wants to give the public new ideas and combinations with the products and materials that were used. For example sustainable materials, like recycled plastics and fabrics.
