In the only program of its kind, design historian Daniella Ohad highlights such major areas in collecting design as French Art Deco, American Modernism, Contemporary Design, Italian, American, and French mid-century design and more. Ohad hosts some of the world’s leading experts who share their knowledge and passion about their areas of expertise. A visit to a design auction brings to light the most current directions in collecting design.
Collecting modern and contemporary design has become one of the most exciting, surprising, dynamic, and influential territories in the international marketplace.
While at birth, it was fueled by the energy of the fine art market, collecting design has since emerged into a discipline on its own right, and one that not only dominating global interior design, but also attracting a new generation of young and serious collectors, generating exhibitions, publications, and fairs such as Design Miami, PAD, and Salon Art + Design. Collecting design, which has been identified by the Wall Street Journal as a lucrative venue of investment, has come forward as a source of taste-making and trend forecasting, maker of status, culture, and taste, generating market reports, research projects and scholarships, monographs, and endless headlines.
