Freddie Yauner
The Highest Popping Toaster In The World - 'The Moaster'
Working on the premise that, "Everyone loves it when a toaster has a good pop to it," Freddie Yauner has created 'The Highest Popping Toaster in the World', or ‘The Moaster’ as the culmination of his 'Because We Can' series of domestic objects.
Freddie, who graduates from the RCA this year, took 3 months to build the toaster which utilizes a high-pressure CO2 gas system and mechanical ram that recently won it the Guiness World Record for 'highest toaster pop'.
His project aims to produce extreme or superlative products, using slogans such as 'the biggest, the best, the fastest', as a critique of the current state of design and consumerism.
Speaking on his work Yauner says,
"We want to associate ourselves with objects that pretend to make us better or fulfill our dreams, always offering us more. We are, consciously or unconsciously, allowing ourselves to be told what we need and what will complete our sense of self as we see it in image form, and are content in ‘hyperreal’ space. Self-deception is so easily accepted, that it is almost a necessity."
These days, evidence of thought and real concepts behind emerging design products is always reassuring. However, in this case, design theory or not we’re a fan!
Other examples of Freddie's work, from the "Because We Can" project, can be found on his website, alongside some additional lighthearted and equally imaginative bits and pieces. A favourite of ours is Signs Of Life, why not take a look?..
