Hairywood Tower
20th June - 20th July '08
Covent Garden Piazza
Covent Garden, London WC2E 9DD
The Hairywood Tower is back! As part of Skin + Bones: Parallel Practices in Fashion and Architecture at Somerset House, The Hairywood installation will be rebuild in Covent Garden Piazza for the duration of the LFA 2008.
Designed by 6a Architects and fashion designers Eley Kishimoto in 2005 and originally curated by the Architecture Foundation, this is a six metre tower you can climb, explore and gain a new perspective on the piazza from the top.
The outside of the tower is clad with plywood, laser cut with Eley Kishimoto's pattern of Rapunzels hair allowing dappled light into the interior. At night, the tower is lit from within and glows like a lantern.
