Brompton Design District | London Design Festival
2011
Now in its fourth year, Brompton Design District is well-established as a leading destination during the London Design Festival (LDF). This year the programme promises to be stronger than ever with an international focus showcasing new design and makers from Mexico City to Vienna.
With its close links to the V&A and the RCA, Brompton is not only home to leading global design brands, but also hosts one of the capital’s most adventurous design programmes. All events are within walking distance of the LDF hub at the V&A. Visitors are invited to explore behind South Kensington’s white stucco terraces to discover one of the capital’s most unexpected and creative platforms for new design.
Increasingly, sustainability is a theme in the festival as this year demonstrates once again. The RCA, naturally being at the forefront of design trends, presents its graduating students’ sustainable-design projects in an exhibition called The Problem Comes First. And the Marion Friedmann Gallery introduces us to two new talents who work with recycled packaging materials and whose work displays remarkable virtuosity despite the assumed limitations of their chosen media.
