DesignArt: Commerce or Culture?

On the 26th February 2008 Rabih Hage Gallery set up a forum to consider the contemporary phenomenon of the DesignArt movement.
That design is made, manufactured, sold and exhibited just like art has become a subject of much debate. It would seem that more and more the design world is turning to one-off pieces and limited editions that are audacious, expressive and experimental in nature. These pieces are no longer considered simply objects of utility and are transgressing the traditional
boundaries between art and design.
Questions surrounding celebrity, significance, high prices, manufacture and integrity were discussed and debated by a select panel of professionals and chaired by design critic and curator Max Fraser.
Panel
Richard Woods (artist)
Judd Tully (editor-at-large, Art + Auction magazine)
Jurgen Bey (designer)
David Carlson (editor-in-chief of David Report)
Alexander Payne (design director, Phillips de Pury)
Movie produced by Max Fraser and Aaron Stone.
